Washington State has some of the best scenery on the planet. Between the mountains, rivers, ocean, sound, space needle, olympics, rain forests my only regret was that I only had two weeks to expore the state. I will be going back.
I wanted to check out Mt Baker on our Northwest trip. This beautiful Peak was very near to Mt Baker in early June. The cornices on the Domed peak were huge.
This Boardwalk promenade had some of the neatest scenery imaginable near Fairhaven/Bellingham in Washington state. Check out the Canadian border and mountains in the background.
This is part of the mt baker Ski area in June. There was still plenty of Snow but alas the lifts were closed and my skis were 3000 miles away.
This was my favorite shot of Nousack falls. I used a monopod to shoot the slower shutter speed. You should hike to this site and see it in person.
On the way to Mount St helens the falls roared just feet away from the access road. There was about one hundred feet visibility that day so Mt St Helens will have to wait for a return trip.
DEW DROP 2
This is a shot of Mt Rainier as seen from near Mineral Wa. Note the mist, the clouds as well as the couple tall evergreens sitting on one of the foothills. Minutes later this shot was blown out as the sun crossed over the left side of the peak. This shot is almost mystical to me.
These two young lovers are sitting on a deck at a coffee shop on the Puget Sound near Fairhaven Wa about 9:30 at night. How is that for a Romantic backdrop?
This older Seagull was perched on a submerged tree long enough to grab this shot.
This shot of downtown Seattle with Mt Rainier showing up was taken from Kerry Park at Sunrise. I will remember taking this series of shots for the rest of my life as this was also the day my youngest son married the love of his life here in Seattle later the same day. This park is tiny but has magnificent views of the city and the Sound. I have to get back here again. PS The hill that you will drive your rental car up to get to this Park is STEEP real STEEP. It's a good thing that they don't get a lot of Snow or Ice in Seattle because this would be a double Diamond to drive it with ICE.
This is one of my rain forest shots. Check out how anything that lays down or falls begins anew with moss and ferns growning out of fallen trees.
The cedar shakes on this cabin were a day old when I got this shot near Longmire inside the Rainier National Park. You have to get to this park someday. It is a huge Park with much to see.
This is the national park Inn at longmire. You can see Mt Rainier from the porch pictured here. Check out that full moon. This place is Rustic and without TV or Cell phone coverage or beeper range. I loved it!
How Peaceful is this! This is a small dock at Mineral Lake in Mineral WA.
I remember Field & Stream magazine growing up and how awesome the pictures were. I call this Mountain & Stream. The noise at these rapids were a good warning when I shot this using a monopod. nature is beautiful.
Another angle of the gull walking on water.
I call this Rainier in the Mist because it really does hide out alot. I shot this near Dawn near the national Park Inn.
This is probably my favorite rain forest shots in Washington State area. Remember I did not get to the Olympic Peninsula so I have to go back. This backdrop is huge. That Old Growth tree is Massive and there are so many different moss/ferns type plants I lost count of them.
This is the start of a Beautiful day near the National Park Inn. Between the lack of rain, Mt Rainier being visible and the colors in that morning sky I knew it was going to be a good day.
A Black Squirrel with a reddish brown tail near the chuckanut drive.
I call this one country-classic. I had the hardtop version of this OLDS. between the old car with primer spots, the dumpster and the gravel lot cannot take away from the misty Farm and the beautiful range of mountains on the way to Bellingham.
A lone Kayaker's red vest stands out as he paddles across a lake near Bellingham WA.
This is one of the shots I got from Kerry park in Seattle. There is a large modern sculpture that served as a perfect frame for the Space Needle at Dawn.
Sailboat shadows as the sun slipped away after 9:30 PM This peaceful scene was repeated all along the Sound.
Another shot of Mt Rainier with a jet trail near Dawn. Simply Awesome!
Huge Driftwood sits along the shore along the chuckanut drive. This 20 mile drive is a must in northwest Washington state.
This red skinned tree branch stands out on the rocky beach along chuckanut drive. San Juans in the background. The colors are not touched , the wood is really that red.
If you look closely you can see this large bird of prey with a fresh live fish in his talons. I only with I had had my larger Zoom on the camera as this took place in less than a second.
MISTY MOUNTAIN SILO
A shot of Nousack Falls near bellingham Wa.
This is Mt Rainier at Dawn as seen from the shore of Mineral lake in Mineral WA. The Mineral lake Inn is a beautifully restored Inn with this view just steps away.
Here is a perfect example of a beach along the Chuckanut drive. Between the San Juans, the shoreline, the driftwood and the crystal clear water this is one of the most scenic areas I have seen without any SNOW!
